RE: no subject.

Smoldering Fire,
The grandest I’ve ever known. Heat, Comfort, Sustenance, Satisfaction.

Seen for miles, you were magnificent
The last fire I’d ever build, my true intent.
You could have been forever my light, my life.
A fool now returns from peril and strife
To see this, A pitiful shadow of what you once were
I’m no longer heated, not by flame nor by fur
I am doomed and consumed in what is now cold
I left you, ablaze, for match and for candle
the heat of your flame I thought too much to handle
I knew the moment I turned from your light
No fire would warm me, None else would be right

So I return
So I repent
Nothing to burn
Love long lost spent

I am freezing alive with none to my name
I see now your ashes with a dire lack of flame
I run now to your side with a thought of regret
I kneel to your ashes but your coals are not wet
The long spent heat is livid in the bowels of your flesh
Under the ashes lies a new chance, burning fresh

I turn the coals,
A flicker burning red,
My heart aches from happiness.
